The only people to blame for children under the age of 10 having “addictions” to smart phones, tablets, and technology in general is the parents. I don’t want to hear people complain about their 4 year old knowing how to play with the settings on their ipad. You put the iPad in your kid’s life. You gave a 4 year old their own ipad. They learned to use it. You did that. It’s your fault. Don’t blame kid’s for poor parenting, incompetence, and laziness when it comes to raising children.
So fun little story. The library I work at has laptops you can check out for a few hours. We have a ton of latchkey kids. They all want to play Roblox all the time. We also serve dinner, because we are a very low income area and the state gives us food to feed these kids who don’t eat except here and at school a lot of the time.
We have a problem with the kids refusing dinner, because they aren’t allowed to eat at the computers.
We have children, HUNGRY children, refusing to eat because they will have to put their computer back and risk someone else checking it out if they do.
We are now having to accommodate the technology addiction of our kids in order to ensure that they get to eat. This shit is serious and it’s fucked up and it’s so much worse than your four year old being able to unlock your tablet.
