As someone who has been living with severe suicidal ideation my entire life I wanna tell you all something, you don’t have to stay alive for yourself. People will say it’s a bad idea to live for external things because they’re temporary, and it’s true living for yourself is ideal but if you’re not to that point yet that’s ok too.
I’ve lived for my dog for the past 4 years, before that I lived for my snakes, before that I lived for my cat. You can live for whatever needs you and whatever matters to you. Live for your best friend, live for your plants, live for your pets, live for your animal crossing town. Live for whatever keeps you alive and the day will come when you can live for yourself.

Transformers kept me alive. When the 2007 movie was announced I was going through an incredibly hard time emotionally. I saw the preview and every time I thought about killing myself I thought, “but then I won’t get to see this thing I’ve always wanted to see, good or not.” And it got me through.

i actually think it’s terrible that people demand survivors to forgive their abusers. it’s like they are saying ‘i know, you’ve always existed to make your abuser feel better and guess what? you still have to do that. you aren’t allowed to be a real person with real feelings of justified anger. you have to be a good victim. you have to be obedient. your abuser’s feelings are still much more important than your well being’
oh and saying shit like ‘it’s necessary for your recovery that you forgive them’ is a manipulative lie. just fuck off.

“Everybody in Vermont was so amazing. Like, electric bill was forgiven, you know, gas bill was forgiven, cable. … People were so moved by this kid that was murdered in his own home,” DeOliveira-Longinetti said.
She said the federal government wiped out Kevin’s Stafford loan debts as well, but the New Jersey Higher Education Student Assistance Authority – the source of nearly $19,000 in additional student loans – did not.
“Please accept our condolences on your loss… Monthly bill statements will continue to be sent to you,” DeOliveira-Longinetti read from the HESAA letter.
When she gets the bill in the mail, it’s a reminder that her son is dead and will not graduate, DeOliveira-Longinetti said.
“I know what a co-signing is. If it defaults, I’m responsible. I know that,” she said. “You’re not going to say to your kid, you can’t go to college because of $4,000.”
Earlier this month, an investigation by ProPublica and The New York Times looked at HESAA and quoted a lawyer who likened it to “state-sanctioned loan-sharking.” ProPublica reporter Annie Waldman interviewed dozens of borrowers including a cancer patient who lost his job and couldn’t repay his loans. HESAA sued him for $266,000.
Hurriyet Daily News reports that Albayrak had been hired to photograph the July 5th wedding at Turgut Özal Nature Park in the eastern Turkish province of Malatya. On the day of, when he noticed that the bride-to-be didn’t look like an adult, he asked the groom her age and learned that she was only 15.
“The groom had come to my studio some two weeks ago and was alone,” Albayrak tells the Daily News. “I saw the bride for the first time at the wedding. She’s a child, and I felt her fear because she was trembling.”
Albayrak then reportedly refused to continue as the wedding photographer and attempted to stop the wedding.
The argument soon turned physical when the groom attacked him as he was attempting to leave, Albayrak says. The photographer ended up breaking the client’s nose in the fight, according to local reports.
Albayrak confirmed the reports in a Facebook post, which has been met with widespread approval, attracting thousands of Likes and hundreds of overwhelmingly positive comments.
“I wish this had never happened, but it did,” Albayrak writes. “And if you were to ask me if I’d do the same thing again, I’d say ‘yes.’ Child brides are [victims] of child abuse and no power on earth can make me photograph a child in a wedding gown.”
The legal minimum age for marriage in Turkey is 18-years-old for both sexes, and child marriage is punishable by imprisonment for men who marry underage girls. Despite being outlawed, however, child marriage is still prevalent in the country and remains a controversial political issue.
btw – let’s remind ourselves, americans, that unlike turkey, in the US the legal minimum age for marriage is only 18 in two states. in alabama, you can be married as young as fourteen years old if you have “parental permission”. in california, you can get married under 18 if you go to counseling, have a parent with you when you apply for the marriage license, and appear before a judge. in some states, there isn’t even a specific minimum age for marriage.
the minimum marriage age for girls in new hampshire is 13 years old.
child marriage is not an “over there” problem, it happens right here, legally. any one of us might find ourselves called upon to break somebody’s nose if we encounter something like this occurring. we also have a responsibility to support groups and laws trying to end child marriage in this country.
